Why I Started Feeding Raw Food

Why I Started Feeding Raw Food

My Personal Experience with the Health Benefits of a Raw Food Diet

You might’ve noticed Camilla and Jasper eat raw food.  But the reason I started the raw food diet was because of my cat, Bono.

Bono was found on the side of the road as a sickly kitten.  He had a lot of health issues early on but completely recovered with the exception of conjunctivitis scarring on his left eye.  However, at just 2 years old Bono was hospitalized with a bladder crystal obstruction, which can be deadly in male cats.

I was told bladder crystals could be something Bono is genetically prone to or it could be the result of his food.  Bono was eating what I had considered high quality wet food but I switched him to the vet recommended Hills Prescription Diet cans of wet food.   Despite the medicated food, a few months later he had another flare up and was hospitalized again.  And a few months after that, another flare up.

That was when I started looking into the raw diet.  The raw diet mimics a natural prey diet, made up of raw meat, organs, and bones.  Since switching Bono to a raw diet over 3 years ago he has not had another bladder crystal flare up!

I switched puppy Camilla over to raw food at the same time as Bono.  When Jasper joined the gang a few years later at age four, I once again noticed the health benefits of the raw diet.  Jasper had seasonal skin allergies, which left him extremely itchy.  The raw diet combined with fish oil has drastically reduced his allergies.
